The Lift Summit, a three-day event exploring the future of advanced air mobility, unmanned aircraft systems, and regional economic growth in California, kicked off Wednesday at the Monterey Conference Center.Dozens of people, including educators, non-profits, and government officials, attended the first day to witness flight demonstrations of revolutionary aircraft."The one that was so exciting for me was, an aircraft that it started off at. When it goes on takeoff, it goes up vertical. And then as it reaches certain at altitude, it levels out horizontally. And so then it's able to, maneuver around," said Charron Smith, an attendee.These innovative aircraft could be used for wildfire support and emergency response, delivering rapid life-saving assistance."These are drones for good. You'll see a lot of emergency response, wildfire response, and more importantly, you know, enabling a sustainable transportation system for generations to come. And that's really what LIFT is about. We need to uplift everybody and have this available for everybody. This is not just a rich for transport only solution. These technologies are really for everyone," said Sarasina Tuchen, the Lift Summit chairperson.As a growing hub for aviation innovation, the city will also create jobs and boost the local economy."There's a big building that's being put up. It's a new 250,000 square foot advance manufacturing facility where Joby is going to dramatically expand its workforce.
