  • Joe Lumbley 𝙓𝙄𝙣𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙑𝘽 𝙩𝙤 𝘾#!🚀I’m thrilled to share my recent journey of converting my VB app, "𝙓𝙄𝙣𝙥𝙪𝙩," into its new C# counterpart, "𝙓𝙄𝙣𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝘾𝙎." This experience has been both challenging and rewarding, and I’d love to share some insights that might help others considering a similar transition.🛠️ 𝙆𝙚𝙮 𝙏𝙖𝙠𝙚𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝘿𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨:𝙉𝙖𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨:In VB, we use Imports to include namespaces, while C# employs the using directive.𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙁𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: VB uses Public Class and capitalizes visibility modifiers, whereas C# requires lowercase (public class). Additionally, every function in C# must end with a semicolon ; , which can be a common source of errors during conversion.𝘼𝙩𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙗𝙪𝙩𝙚𝙨:One of the more noticeable differences is how attributes are defined. VB uses angle brackets < >, while C# opts for square brackets [ ].𝘼𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙮 𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙭: Arrays in VB are declared using parentheses ( ), while C# requires square brackets [ ] and the new keyword for initialization.𝙀𝙧𝙧𝙤𝙧 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜: The structure of Try-Catch blocks differs significantly. In VB, we use Try and End Try, while C# uses braces { }.𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣:In VB, strings are concatenated using the & operator, while C# uses the + operator.𝘿𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙃𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜: Another key difference is how we retrieve the current date and time. In VB, we simply use Now, but in C#, we must use DateTime Now. This small change is easy to overlook.Transitioning between programming languages is not just about translating code; it’s an opportunity to rethink and enhance your approach to problem-solving. Each language has its unique strengths, and understanding these differences can significantly improve your coding skills. If you’re considering a similar conversion, I encourage you to embrace the challenge! It’s a fantastic way to grow as a developer and to understand the underlying principles of programming more deeply.Feel free to explore the code in both repositories and share your thoughts or any tips you might have! I’d love to hear about your experiences with language transitions or any challenges you’ve faced. Happy coding! 💻✨Check out the projects here:🔗 𝙓𝙄𝙣𝙥𝙪𝙩 (https://lnkd.in/eGCRJBqi) VB 🔗 𝙓𝙄𝙣𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝘾𝙎 (https://lnkd.in/eg9z-WAF) C##VBNet #CSharp #SoftwareDevelopment #CodeConversion #XInput #Programming #GitHub #TechJourney #DeveloperCommunity
  • Barry Carroll Writing LinkedIn posts is not exactly my strength, but I’m going to get through this without GenAI!TL;DR - We have lots of job openings. Fullstack, iOS, Android, data, and machine learning soon. You can see all of them here: https://lnkd.in/eZsGv48QMy colleague Keith Regier started the site here about five years ago, and we’ve grown steadily and thoughtfully since, focussing on maintaining a great culture. Our engineers are a fun and exceptional bunch of people, working on difficult challenges, but ones with great rewards too.More recently, we’ve started to accelerate our growth, and my team is going to double in size by the end of the year (that’s where you come in). Ideally you’ll love a mix of product and platform work, and enjoy seeing your work in our apps. While we are growing quickly, you can still join and make a real impact. The roles are among the best engineering opportunities you’ll find in Ireland. My teams build things like:- In-app “experiences” like educating users about new features, and a lot more.- Data pipelines and ML models to figure out how to reach the right user at the right time - we only ever want to maximise engagement. Looking for machine learning engineers (coming soon).- Surveys to understand our users better and help them find what inspires them.- Pinterest’s Localization platform, infrastructure and tooling. It makes Pinterest available in 40+ languages, mixing human, machine, and GenAI translation. If that sounds interesting then check out the roles, and hopefully we’ll chat soon. My colleagues are looking for people in the data engineering domain, so check those out too.Fullstack (experiences) https://lnkd.in/e4VjyScBFullstack (surveys) https://lnkd.in/eGMevn_DAndroid: https://lnkd.in/e6ZPBVnGiOS: https://lnkd.in/ebxTMU8H 54

  • Shreya Prasad My heart goes out to all the new grads who were laid off recently. This is a tough situation to be in, especially when you haven't even officially started your career. However, remember that this is not a true reflection of your abilities but an unexpected challenge that life threw at you. Here are a few tips that might help you navigate through this challenging time:1. Take Time to Process: Give yourself a few days to accept this reality. Allow yourself to process the shock, anxiety, and uncertainty. This will help you become mentally stronger and better prepared for your next job hunt.2. Big tech is not the end of the world: Starting your career at a prestigious company is everyone's goal, but life is not linear. Explore startups, build projects of your own. Try to develop a resilient attitude and focus on what you can control. Perhaps this is a redirection toward even better career opportunities.3. Explore Unconventional Options: While you are actively cold-emailing recruiters, DMing for referrals, and gearing up for interview prep, also consider other gigs as backups, like freelancing or working on open-source projects that could convert into full-time positions. These options may take time to pay off, but nothing worthwhile comes easily. This approach will also help you build your GitHub profile and keep your skills up to date.4. Focus on Your Skills: Your technical skills, communication abilities, and networking abilities are in your control. Take this as an opportunity to focus more on what YOU can do and keep some faith in life.Remember that you have already cracked major tech companies and demonstrated your capabilities to the world. 🔥Trust the process, take care of yourself, and give your best. Hard work often pays off in unexpected ways. ❤️ PS: I found this relatable image on Instagram that deeply resonates with the current situation.#layoff #recession 206 4 Comments
  • Yisu Kim Better late than never: my blog introIt’s been a while since I launched my blog, but I’ve finally gotten around to introducing it here! As someone who finds it a bit challenging to talk about my own work, I’ve been putting this off.I started this blog mainly to explore the Next.js stack, and I made sure to include multilingual support to gather both English and Korean posts in one place. Also, as a small touch, I added an 'open to work' badge (it even looks better in dark mode!).Featured Post: Unpacking the Slot ComponentThis post dives into the Slot component in Radix UI, which is a core part of Shadcn UI. If you're curious about how the Slot component functions, it breaks everything down with simplified code. I chosethis post because Google Analytics shows it receives occasional traffic — perhaps you’ll find it interesting too.Take a look at the blog: https://www.yisukim.com/Read the post: https://lnkd.in/gkSMCWab#링매모 (44/50) 25 4 Comments

Not much pressure from any local politicians to force RTO; no tax breaks like the situation in SF.Also the hardware team has to physically handle equipment that is not allowed to leave campus(and probably won't work/testable properly outside of corp intranet) so there's a very concrete reason they need to show up (more) often.https://lnkd.in/grSjPyPC#workethic #rto #workfromhome #returntoOffice

  • Mitch B. Hey everyone!I am currently looking for my next role. For the last few years, I have delved deeply into the Shopify, Magento, and Salesforce ecosystem, and worked extensively on backend technologies. I have worked infra and devops (AWS, Jenkins, etc), backend (C# ASP .NET), frontend (Typescript, Svelte), and have extensive experience in application development (C++, C, Assembly, Java, etc). Not only that, I am knowledgeable about application security (threat detection, reverse engineering) but cybersecurity in general (best practices, 0days, proper data architecture and securing it)For more specific examples, I have previously accomplished in my previous position alone:·Creating and deploying C# .NET microservices.·Upgrading to the latest C# .NET version and aligning all microservices to the same architecture.·Implementing API interactions between PayPal, Stripe, Shopify, and Salesforce for backend services.·Creating a Service-to-service authentication system for proper secured communications.·Worked with Shopify POS integration on the backend.·Architected data storage and API to interact with data by coalescing data from multiple Sale systems such as Shopify, Stripe, and Magento. My experience is not limited there though, as I wear many hats. I have extensive experience with game development and native application development as well, and much more. I have much more experience with many different technologies and languages than what I have listed so far. Working with Java, Javascript, and more is something I’ve worked with, and picking up new frameworks and such is a simple feat for me.Resharing and reposting this is heavily appreciated! 13 1 Comment
  • Srujan Kumar Chikoti Here is my interview experience for the Software Engineer 2 role at Nordstrom, where I went through a series of diverse and challenging round.💻 Round 1 - Coding round: The first round focused on linked list operations, with a question about merging two sorted linked lists. I had to implement an optimized solution that combined the lists while maintaining their order, ensuring efficient time and space complexity. This round tested my ability to manage pointer manipulation and handle traversal techniques effectively.💻 Round 2 - Coding round: The second round covered graph traversal using Depth First Search and Breadth First Search algorithms. I solved problems involving both recursive and iterative approaches to graph traversal. It emphasized my ability to explore different strategies for complex graph structures.🛠️ Round 3 - System Design : I was asked to design a real-time commenting system similar to Facebook Live. We discussed scaling for large volumes of traffic, ensuring low-latency communication, and managing database consistency. This round focused on building a robust architecture with optimal trade-offs.🤝 Round 4 - Cross-Functional Team Interview: This round involved collaboration with product management and design, with a focus on questions related to teamwork and communication. I was asked about my experience collaborating with engineering and non-engineering teams, along with situation-based questions on resolving conflicts and aligning team goals. This round highlighted my ability to work effectively across diverse teams and manage real-world challenges.🤝 Round 5 - Behavioral Interview: This round was centered on discussing my work experiences and handling challenges in a team setting. I shared examples in the STAR format, emphasizing my adaptability, problem-solving, and leadership skills. It provided a platform to demonstrate alignment with Nordstrom’s values and culture. Each round of the interview process helped sharpen both my technical and interpersonal skills. I'm grateful for the opportunity to interview with Nordstrom and for the valuable insights I gained along the way!#TechInterviews #NordStrom #SoftwareEngineer #CodingChallenges #InterviewExperience #TechJobs #SystemDesign 111 2 Comments
  • Suresh G. 🎉 Big News! We've just launched the third book in our System Design Playbook series! I don't want to brag too much because, well, I'm just the guy who created this, but together with my tireless team (shoutout to Rohit Jain and Shubham Chandak!), we've worked hard to make system design concepts simple and digestible.Preparing for FAANG interviews, I remember the struggle of finding comprehensive resources—concepts were all over the place, and explanations often left more questions than answers. We aimed to fix that. Here’s what we packed into this book:1. 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝘀: Lots of diagrams because, truly, "𝘈 𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥𝘴."2. 𝗡𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: No buzzwords, no fluff. Just clean, straightforward explanations that make sense. It's tough to write simply, but that's where the real effort lies—𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘢𝘯’𝘵 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘴𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘺, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧 - 𝘈𝘭𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘌𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘪𝘯.We've included a sample from our latest chapter on Designing YouTube to give you a taste of how we approach teaching complex topics in a way that sticks.Download Full eBook:𝗪𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲: https://lnkd.in/dzUXgTwb𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: https://lnkd.in/dXPvFzjuHappy learning! 46 6 Comments
  • Chris Thomas If you are a developer laid off during the #Techpocalypse and are grinding through a job search right now, remember to take time to nurture the creative part of you that drew you to software development in the first place. Find a personal project and spend some time on that every day. Here's mine: I'm building my own browser extension to pull data from my application spreadsheet and highlight the LinkedIn listings for jobs I've already applied to (often discovered through other platforms). It's not spectacularly complex or anything, but it's useful to me and it's keeping me sane. (Frontend colleagues and former employees: please excuse the backend-engineer-uses-css asthetic) 8 2 Comments
